2019 Street Art Mural

With thanks and appreciation from the City of Toronto BIA Office with a mural grant, we added some more art to the neighbourhood!
Picture
The wall alongside the Long & McQuade parking lot got an artistic refresh! Working with the theme of "Celebrating Creativity", it was interpreted as music!

Jarus and Jason Pinney of One Day Creates were the masterminds and executors of what you see there now!

A mix of cubanism and realism created this beautiful piece - and features a precious Les Paul guitar!

Back in 2008, Jason was adorned the same wall with a scene celebrating the community with music. It was incredible to have him return over a decade later to do the same wall as well as note his growth as an artist.

The BIA, Long & McQuade, Jason and Jarus had a great time celebrating the unveiling of the mural using the Bloorcourt Microgrant.

Food and drink was served by Butter Chicken Roti, Machino Donuts and The Makerbean Cafe.

The Lonely Hearts played some amazing tunes while the staff of Long & McQuade provided the sound equipment and logistics.

All photos were taken by Shawn Dakin.

Land Acknowledgement
The City of Toronto acknowledges that what we now call Toronto is on the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. The City also acknowledges that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands.

African Ancestral Acknowledgement
The City of Toronto acknowledges all Treaty peoples – including those who came here as settlers – as migrants either in this generation or in generations past - and those of us who came here involuntarily, particularly those brought to these lands as a result of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade and Slavery. We pay tribute to those ancestors of African origin and descent
